Are You One of The 45% Who Will Get Out of The Rat Race THIS YEAR By Using Meditation?

Are you trying to juggle family and career, just to become totally burned out?

Did you work your butt off for years at your job hoping to get a promotion only to see someone else get it?

Maybe you are exhausted by the constant arguments with your spouse and all you want is a loving relationship with him.

It is hard to be in such a situation and you might ask yourself, “How did I get here?”

You could begin to try many of the “standard” methods of reaching your goals of a better career or personal life. The specialists will tell you that these are the “tried and true” ways, taught by the so called “experts”. Every one of them will promise to change your life and that you will be a huge success in no time.

Does this sound familiar?

You read their books and attended their costly seminars.

They will also state that you need to create a plan of action.

This apparently is to keep you on course while trying to figure out what you want.

Regardless of the fact that you don’t really know what your true calling is, you still attempt to “work the system.” Likely, you will find yourself straying from your plan on an almost daily basis. If you get somewhere close to your goal, then you will probably decide that this is good enough “for now” and go do something else.

In the end, it won’t help you all that much and you will easily fall back into your old routines.

Ultimately, you probably will be stuck in your terrible job, your social life will consist of one fight after the other with your spouse and your energy hits rock bottom. This can be very discouraging and you will know that it is not the way you want to live.
You will eventually ask yourself, “There has to be a better way.”

Fortunately, there is an answer in the incredible power of meditation. If you want to begin this experience for yourself right now, try the following:

  • Set aside 10 to 15 minutes sometime before you go to bed;
  • Find a quiet place with absolutely no distractions;
  • Sit in a comfortable position and close your eyes;
  • Empty your mind of all your daily concerns by visualizing how you put them in a box next to you and concentrate on your breathing;
  • Count yourself down from 5 to 1
  • With every breath take all the positive energy in and with every
breath out let go of all the negative energy
  • Take slow deep breaths and systematically relax each part of your body, starting with your head and ending with your feet;
  • As your muscles relax you will feel all of the stress flow out and be left with a completely relaxed sensation throughout your body.
  • See yourself in a peaceful place like a park, the beach, the forest
or the mountains. Wherever you’d like to be in this moment.
  • Whenever you like count yourself up from 1 to 5

That’s it.

If you do this on a daily basis you will notice that you feel well rested the next day.(Instead of having yet another sleepless night)
You also will find that your mind opens up to new ideas to tackle your issues. Maybe you’ll get an inspiration for a new idea.

This is just the beginning and it doesn’t even scratch the surface of what you can accomplish with meditation!

Meditation 101

cosmic meditation

The state where body and mind are focused and relaxed is referred as meditation.Practitioners of the report increased focus, awareness, and a more positive attitude on life.

Transcendental meditation is most commonly associated with monks, mystics and other spiritual disciplines.  However, you don’t have to be a monk or mystic to enjoy its benefits.  And you don’t even have to be in a special place to practice it.  You could even try it in your own living room!

Although there are many different approaches to meditation, the fundamental principles remain the same.  The most important among these principles is that of removing obstructive, negative, and wandering thoughts and fantasies, and calming the mind with a deep sense of focus.  This clears the mind of debris and prepares it for a higher quality of activity.

The negative thoughts you have – those of noisy neighbors, bossy officemates, that parking ticket you got, and unwanted spam– are said to contribute to the ‘polluting’ of the mind, and shutting them out is allows for the ‘cleansing’ of the mind so that it may focus on deeper, more meaningful thoughts.

Some practitioners even shut out all sensory input – no sights, no sounds, and nothing to touch – and try to detach themselves from the commotion around them.  You may now focus on a deep, profound thought if this is your goal. You will find yourself being more aware of things around you as you continue this exercise.

If you find the tantric meditation positions you see on television threatening – those with impossibly arched backs, and painful-looking contortions – you need not worry. The main thing is to be comfortable location where you will be able to concentrate.  This may be while sitting cross-legged, standing, lying down, and even walking.

If the position allows you to relax and focus, then that would be a good starting point.  While sitting or standing, the back should be straight, but not tense or tight.  In other positions, the only no-no is slouching and falling asleep.

Loose, comfortable clothes help a lot in the process since tight fitting clothes have a tendency to choke you up and make you feel tense.

The place you perform meditation should have a soothing atmosphere. It could be in any location that you're comfortable, be it your bedroom, or living room.  You might want an exercise mat if you plan to take on the more challenging positions (if you feel more focused doing so, and if the contortionist in you is screaming for release).  You may want to have the place arranged so that it is soothing to your senses.

Silence helps most people relax and meditate, so you may want a quiet, isolated area far from the ringing of the phone or the humming of the washing machine.  Pleasing scents also help in that regard, so stocking up on aromatic candles isn’t such a bad idea either.

Studies have shown that meditation does bring about beneficial physiologic effects to the body. The medical community has consensus to study the effects further.  So in the near future, who knows, that mystical, esoteric thing we call meditation might become a science itself!

Meditation Techniques Advantageous

subject of meditation

Many times people will catch snippets of conversation about meditating or hear something about it in the media. But, in many cases, the public in general is not quite sure exactly what meditation practice is and how it might be beneficial in their lives. Often what people think of when they hear someone mention meditation is a group of monks sequestered in a far away monastery. However, these days, it is being practiced more and more among people from all walks of life.

While it is true that the practice of meditation has strong and deep connections to many Eastern cultures and religions, it is also a fact that meditation has been practiced around the world by a wide variety of people of many beliefs. While meditating is something that has been done for thousands and thousands of years in these other areas, it has only been in the last few decades that it has become better known, understood and practiced in the Western world.

Meditation is a practice that anyone, from any walk of life or background, can utilize. It has been very effective in helping people to reduce stress and anxiety, and cope with problems and issues in their daily lives, from simply enjoying a more relaxed and calm day to dealing with a medical crisis.

There are a number of different approaches to the subject of meditation, but they all center on the same basic principles. The first thing people need to do when learning how to meditate is to quiet the mind of the clutter and chatter that is so common in today's life, and increase mindfulness of things that can calm and relax.

Some of the more common ways to meditate that are among the most recognized, are prayer, transcendental meditations, mindfulness meditations, Zen meditations, Taoist meditations, and Buddhist meditations. Some of these meditation techniques require that the body be kept absolutely still, while others incorporate deliberate and controlled movements.

Regardless of the method of meditating, the process leads to a deeper contemplation and reflection of whatever is going on in one's life, helping to bring those things that are most important to the surface. In this way, meditating can help to open the way for spiritual development and spiritual enlightenment because it is an effective way of allowing the mind to focus on the inner aspects of life and tune out the distractions of daily tasks and demands.

There are a number of different healing benefits that have been reported throughout the years. The benefits are most often seen by those who choose to make meditating a regular practice that is incorporated into their daily lives. Many have reported that their meditations have brought about healing in the physical body, the spirit, the emotions and the mind.

A few of the most commonly reported health benefits from meditation include the reduction of blood pressure levels, a lower resting heart rate, better circulation and oxygenation, better breathing and improved sleep patterns. Many people have also said that they feel more energetic, and that people comment to them that their skin and overall appearance seems younger.

What can make me fall a sleep easier ?

Here are some suggestions to help you sleep.

A glass of warm milk can quickly put someone to sleep.

A well used and healthy body has very little trouble sleeping. If you have followed all the tips for getting enough sleep — sleeping on a regular schedule, avoiding caffeine and daytime naps, exercising regularly, and managing stress.  Then you will probably only have trouble falling asleep occasionally.

• Make sure your bed is comfortable. Different types of mattresses help with different issues. Some mattresses are made to accommo¬date different type’s bedmates’ sleeping habits and comfort levels. Others are made to adjust to your firmness preferences. In addition, try therapeutic-shaped foam pillows that cradle your neck or extra pillows that help you sleep on your side. Make sure your sheets are com¬fortable and clean.

• Ensure your bedroom remains primarily a place for sleeping. Don’t use your bed for paying bills, doing work, etc. Help your body recognize that this is a place for rest or intimacy.

• Keep your bedroom peaceful and comfortable. Make sure your room is well ventilated and the temperature is consistent, and try to keep it quiet. If you have a problem with out¬side noise, a fan or a “white noise” machine can help block it out.

Hide your clock. A big, illuminated digital clock may cause you to focus on the time and make you feel stressed and anxious. Place your clock so you can’t see the time when you are in bed.

• Do not nap during the day. If you are having trouble sleeping at night, try not to nap during the day. If you are feeling especially tired and feel as if you absolutely must nap, be sure to sleep for less than 30 minutes, early in the day.

Limit caffeine and alcohol. Avoid drinking caffeinated or alcoholic beverages for several hours before bedtime.

Don’t smoke. Nicotine is a stimulant and can make it difficult to fall asleep and stay asleep.

Expose yourself to bright light/sunlight soon after awakening. This will help to regulate your body’s natural biological clock. Likewise, try to keep your bedroom dark while you are sleeping so that the light will not interfere with your rest.

Exercise early in the day. Twenty to thirty minutes of exercise every day can help you sleep, but be sure to exercise in the morning or afternoon. Exercise stimulates the body and aerobic activity before bedtime may make falling asleep more difficult.

• Check your iron level. Iron deficient women tend to have more problems sleeping, so if your blood is iron poor, a supplement might help you sleep

But the best suggestion comes from our mothers; a glass of warm milk will always help put you to sleep.

Overcome sleeplessness

There are many tips to help overcome insomnia.

There are 80 different sleep disorders of which the most common is insomnia.  Insomnia may mean you have a hard time going to sleep or that you have a hard time staying asleep. Usually, you will know if you are experiencing insomnia because you will remember tossing and turning or being awake at night.

The following habits and conditions are risk factors for developing insomnia:

• Poor sleep environment (e.g., too noisy, too brightly lit, too hot, or too cold)
• Excessive use of caffeine, alcohol, or certain medications and drugs
• Smoking or chewing tobacco
• Illness
• Obesity
• Anxiety, depression, or another mood disorder
• Stress, such as the death of a loved one or job pressure
• Unhealthy or irregular sleep routine
• Early or late-night bedtimes
• Traveling between time zones
• Daytime napping
• Shift work with a rotating schedule

Insomnia is a sleep disorder characterized by an inability to sleep and/or inability to remain asleep for a reasonable period. Insomniacs typically complain of being unable to close their eyes or “rest their mind” for more than a few minutes at a time.

Insomnia can be caused by fear, stress, anxiety, medications, herbs, caffeine, depression, or other mental conditions and sometimes occurs for no apparent reason. An overactive mind or physical pain may also be causes. Finding the underlying cause of insomnia is usually necessary to cure it. But there are tips for helping with insomnia while you are working on curing it.

Behavioral Treatments for Insomnia:
Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) - This relaxation technique is practiced by tensing certain muscle groups and then totally relaxing them.

Autogenic training - A relaxation method that calls for an individual to repeat a set of visualizations to induce a state of relaxation.

Meditation - Concentration on an object of thought or awareness that can calm and relax the body and mind.

Stress management - Being aware of and managing the amount of stress in your life can allow you to more easily relax at night when it’s time to sleep.

Stimulus control - Stimulus Control therapy reassociates the bed and bedroom with sleeping by limiting the amount of time spent in the bedroom for non-sleep activities.

Diet management - Reducing the use of stimulants and depressants and avoiding big meals just before bed can help reduce the risk of insomnia episodes.

Acupuncture, acupressure, and massage - These alternative treatments can have an extremely calming effect on your nervous system.

Medicinal Treatments for Insomnia:
Benzodiazepines - The most commonly-used class of drugs prescribed for insomnia includes drugs such as temazepam, diazepam, lorazepam, and midazolam.

Non-benzodiazepine prescription drugs - New drugs such as Ambien and Lunesta. These drugs have a cleaner side effect profile than benzodiazepines but do appear to cause psychological dependence and physical dependence.

Melatonin - A hormone that has proved effective for some insomniacs in regulating the sleep/waking cycle.

Over-the-counter sleep aids - Many of these sleep aids use the antihistamine diphenhydramine. The effectiveness of these aids often decreases over time and next-day sedation is common.

These methods will only help with insomnia while you and your medical professional are working on finding the primary problems so as to find a cure.

Centerpointe Holosync Meditation System

Centerpointe's Holosync meditation system is produced as a number of sets of especially encoded CDs that need to be listened to with headphones and should be used every day for upwards of 30 minutes.

The CDs are produced in sets of 4 and naturally come with complete listening instructions and support. The lower levels of Centerpointe are usually finished within 3 to 6 months but the deeper levels (called Purification and Flowering) can take a year or more to complete each level.

The Holosync system plays binaural beats (sometimes called binaural tones). It plays a marginally different beat into each of your ears, which is why the system requires you to wear stereo headphones.

The beats are disguised by the soothing sound of rainfall. A few of the tracks also play tolling bells.

The Centerpointe CDs have two half hour tracks. When you move on to each CD, you'll listen to the first track for the first few sessions to allow your brain to adjust.

The binaural beats are deceptively simple. Your brain is slightly confused by the two different tones and does its best to make them sound the same. As this happens, your brain begins a reorganization process. Quite often the CDs will allow things in you to release themselves, and when you welcome this, you'll begin to notice profound changes occurring.

Once you've got past the first set of Centerpointe Holosync CDs, you can personalize any future sets. This is done by phoning a special number and you read out your chosen affirmations (you're given some suggested wordings or you can create your own). The next batch of CDs you receive will have these affirmations recorded as silent subliminals, as well as the regular binaural beats.

By their very nature, you won't consciously hear these silent subliminals but they'll be received loud and clear by your brain - as though they were normal speech.

Which means that as you progress through the Centerpointe Holosync levels, you'll get progressively deeper and deeper meditations and more benefits.

Check out this full Centerpointe Holosync review here.

Meditation for Beginners: Simple Ways To Start Meditation

None of us is born an expert and meditation is no exception. If you're just starting to meditate, here are some useful tips.

1. Don't panic about whether you're meditating "right" or not

If you follow the instructions for your meditation session then there's a high chance you're meditating right. The main idea of meditation is to help you relax. So don't wind yourself up worrying about whether or not you're meditating correctly! There's a very high likelihood that you're fine. And even if you didn't get something quite "right" then, really, who cares? It's not as though you've just completed an examination. Chill out and have some fun for a change.

2. Try out a variety of meditation methods

We're all different. Which means that not everyone will get along with the exact same meditation technique. There's also a good chance that if your target isn't the same, another method could work better. Most times, I'll personally use a binaural beats meditation because that's the fastest way I've found to reach a deep meditation state and with next to no effort on my part. I guess you could call me lazy in that respect. But if I want to work on healing a part of my body - maybe my eyes are sore or I've got a headache - then a guided meditation would be my choice. And if I want to manifest abundance into my life, I'll probably play a Cosmic Ordering track. So feel free to experiment and see what works best for you.

3. Make meditation a habit

It's generally thought that we need to do something for at least 14 days before it becomes habitual. So if you're serious about meditating, diarize with yourself that you're going to meditate on a daily basis for at least 14 days. Choose a time slot where it's unusual for you to be doing anything. A lot of people meditate as soon as they wake up because everything else that happens in the day doesn't get a chance to get in the way. Other people just pick a good time of day and go with it - maybe while their partner is watching the news on television.

Whichever meditation technique you choose and whenever you decide to practice it, it's important to start! Otherwise you'll never know how much you can benefit from regular meditation.

Different Postures of Meditation

Since ancient times, people have practiced meditation for the numerous benefits it offers. Practicing meditation as part of your daily routine might lead to improvements in your outlook and attitude.

Most forms of meditation call for the spine to be straight and the posture to be erect. The reason for this is that when you sit erect it promotes the circulation of your spiritual energy. This is believed to be your life energy or force.

A straight back is essential to most of the meditation traditions, and is a standard component of the various postures used in this practice. Here's a look at a few of them.

1. Seated posture. The person sits erect while keeping the back straight. The head and spine are in alignment and not tilted. Thighs are parallel with the ground. The hands are placed on the arms of the chair or on the knees.

2. Cross legged position. This is a very common posture; the lotus position is included in this category.

3. Kneeling posture. The person is positioned with both knees resting on the floor. The buttocks rest on the heels and toes, which are placed side by side. Hands rest on the thighs.

4. Lying down posture. In yoga this is referred to as savasna; it's also known as the corpse position. The person lies down on the floor keeping the legs unbent and at ease. This position isn't used often because it copies the innate position of sleep. The individual can occasionally nod off. This is better as a means of reducing stress more so than for meditating.

As well as the postures, there are a number of actions or gestures that might form part of the meditation experience. Among these are hand gestures called Mudras. A theological meaning is at the root of these gestures. Coming from the yogic philosophy, they can impact your consciousness. One illustration is the typical Buddhist hand placement. With the thumbs touching, the right hand is positioned on top of the left hand.

Integrating assorted repetitive actions like chanting, deep breathing or humming also assists in bringing on a state of meditation. Some people practice walking meditation. It's common to keep the eyes closed or partially open while meditating. However, Soto Zen practitioners perform their meditation with their eyes wide open in front of a wall.

To gain the benefits of meditation, follow the training of the type of meditation you have decided to practice. Remember that acceptance and persistence are necessary in order to have success. This could be of help at times when you find difficulty in meditating, and it will also improve your concentration in daily life.

How To Meditate To Live A Relaxing Life

meditation music

In many Western countries nowadays there is a rather strong and growing trend to learn how to meditate. There was an era, not so many years ago, when Westerners thought of the meditation practice as belonging to the hippie generation, but today it is considered more of a mainstream discipline that is becoming more and more popular. Even though many variations of meditating have been used for thousands of years, the Western cultures are finally becoming aware of the benefits.

In recent years, an increasingly expanding list of professional athletes, celebrities and business leaders have been learning how to meditate for themselves. These high-profile people have also been more and more willing to speak up and share the benefits they have received from meditation techniques. In some instances, coaches of professional or college sports teams, leaders and owners of businesses have introduced meditation practices to their teams and/or employees to help improve performance.

Nowadays, there are a variety of methods that people can seek out in order to learn how to meditate. Some years ago, the best option was to go on a week long retreat and be instructed by a group of trained instructors in various meditation techniques. In general, these retreats were expensive, making it hard for many people to take advantage of the opportunity.

Many different books have been published over the years to teach meditation. But, somehow trying to learn meditation through a book was a challenging task for many. As a result, many people were not able to experience the full benefits of meditation and in some ways were even left with a negative experience, simply because they were not utilizing the best learning method.

These days there are many guided meditations on CD, as well as MP3 downloads. These mediums are an easier and more effective way to introduce people to mediation. Most of the time, once they become familiar and comfortable with this practice, they are able to expand and meditate on their own or with special meditation music.

Another popular way to learn how to mediate is with DVDs or online videos. For many people, it really makes more sense to stick with the guided meditations that they can receive as an audio file, because many of the DVDs are simply an introduction to the meditation practice. In most forms of meditation, the person's eyes are closed and so they will not be watching a video, although the DVD might include a section of meditation music for the person to use.

Once a person learns the basics of how to meditate, they can customize their practice to suit their own needs and to support their own spiritual journey. They may move on to learn Zen meditation, transcendental meditation, or some other form, and in many cases they will develop a practice that borrows elements from various meditation techniques.

Meditation is Easier Than It Might Seem

by Keira Adams

What is meditation, and is it as complicated as it appears? The answer to the second question is definitely "no". The first question will take a little more explanation, which will also help to explain why meditation is easier than it might seem to be.

During meditation, your mind and body are in a state of conscious relaxation and focus. You will experience sharpened awareness of both your outer surroundings and your inner being.

There is a considerable variety of meditation methods. But basically, the central principles are the same. A successful meditation experience can only be achieved when you calm your mind through the elimination of negative thoughts and emotions through deep focus. Afterwards, your thoughts will be less scattered and your actions more purposeful.

Think of it as housekeeping of the mind. Your negative thoughts and emotions (picture your reaction when faced with construction delays, being put on hold endlessly, and your brother's upcoming trip to Europe) are what "pollute" your mind. Meditation "cleanses" the mind, allowing you to focus on the things that really matter.

Find a Sanctuary for Your Meditation

Your meditation session will be most effective in a calm environment. Find a room in the house where you feel comfortable. If there are other people at home, choose a location where you can close the door and muffle the noise. Turn off the phone, the dishwasher, the washing machine, and don't let anyone vacuum.

Once you're meditating on a regular basis, you'll probably want some props. A meditation pillow or chair, some scented candles and some soothing meditation audio will all help you on your journey to Zen mastery.

Assume the Position

You're sure to have seen the usual pictures of people meditating in unlikely positions with perfect posture. Rest assured that there's no need to contort your body to experience meditation. The idea is to be comfortable so that you can focus on meditating, not your stretched muscles. You can sit, stand, lie down, or even walk around. The choice is yours.

Keep in mind, however, that your back needs to be straight if you're standing or sitting. If you slump, you'll be too relaxed and run the risk of falling asleep. And for maximum comfort, wear something loose and comfy so that you're not focused on your pants cutting into your middle. You have much more important things to focus on.

Ohmm

Many people who meditate include a mantra as part of their practice. A mantra is a word or sound that is repeated over and over, and your focus should be on nothing but that sound. Choose a word or phrase that has significance to you, or just a sound that feels good. Although not a essential part of meditation, it does help you to concentrate on your breathing and can lead you to a higher state of awareness.

The key to a successful meditation experience is focus. Choose an object in your mind or in your line of vision, and concentrate on it to the exclusion of everything else. The same applies to a specific thought as well as to your mantra.

For a simple routine to get you started, start by settling yourself in your chosen sanctuary. Close your eyes, and envision each part of your body, from the top down or bottom up, it doesn't matter. Silently name each part as you think of it, and give it your full attention. You'll immediately notice if there's tension or discomfort in that particular location. In your mind, visualize the tension leaving that body part. You'll be amazed at the results.

The Practice Of Meditation Has Significant Benefits

meditate

Even though we live in a world with more technological gadgets and amazing conveniences than you can shake a stick at, we also live in a time when people seem to be trying to live faster and cram more into shorter time periods. At the same time, with all of the mobile electronics, such as cell phones and laptops, many people never truly set aside their work. Now more than ever, people caught up in such frantic lives could use methods of meditation to help cope with it all.

There are numerous benefits to meditation. As more modern, mainstream medical practitioners look into meditation techniques, the more they have started to acknowledge some of these benefits. Of course, this is nothing new to a great many people and is simply what Eastern religious and cultural traditions have known for centuries.

But, it is a major shift when a mainstream US national newscast reports the findings that researcher have revealed. Various studies have found that cancer patients who engage in meditation practice, such as prayer, guided meditation or transcendental meditation, respond better to treatment.

The fact that this is a major news story in the Western world, and yet is simply a well-known fact in the Eastern world, is a clear indication of how far behind Western medicine is, with regard to integrating spirituality into healthcare approaches. In fact, to many in Eastern cultures it even seems laughable to waste time on a study of the benefits of meditation when in that part of the world it has been a fact of life and practice for as long as anyone can remember.

But, the news is that researchers in the Western world have proven through scientific means, that the regular practice of meditation is an effective, simple and safe way to balance a person's emotional, mental and physical state. As a result of this, it is commendable that more and more mainstream doctors are suggesting to their patients that they learn to meditate in conjunction with their traditional medical treatments. Many doctors have reported that meditations have helped their patients heal faster and respond better to various treatments and medications.

Of course, there are also many benefits even for those who are not undergoing any type of medical treatment, and many advocates of various meditation techniques say that a regular practice of meditating can help keep a person healthy and can actually be instrumental in warding off illness and disease. It is believed that one of the reasons for this is the fact that the meditation helps to keep stress and anxiety in check and since these are major contributors or triggers of many health issues, it is natural that those who meditate enjoy better health.

One of the primary benefits of the practice of meditation is the fact that it helps to significantly reduce levels of stress in the body. When people engage in meditation practice on a consistent basis, they are able to reach greater levels of inner contemplation and deeper relaxation. This in turn helps them to deal with the pressures and the worries that build up during the course of a day, and can help them to enjoy more calmness and peace in everyday life.

Mindfulness Meditation Can Help You Come To Sense With Your Problematic Patterns

meditation practice

There is no question that the pace of life today is more hectic than ever and that an increasing number of people are dealing with feelings of rage, depression, anger, anxiety and stress, as well as many other negative emotions and reactions to modern day life. With such a pace and over-booked schedules, it is not uncommon to discover that you have somehow ended up functioning on "auto-pilot." Mindfulness meditations have proven to be helpful for people who are feeling overtaxed and overwrought with life.

The concept of mindfulness meditations is to help you to be more aware, or mindful, of the many aspects of your life and of everything you are doing. So many times it is easy to get into a groove or a rut and fail to recognize patterns of behavior, attitudes, emotions and actions that begin to take over. Sometimes, it seems that it is easier to let habit or outside circumstances and influences "push" us through the day, and living starts to take on an aspect of "unconscious existing."

For years, experts have said that it is impossible to change anything in your life that you are not aware of. When people slide into the coping method of going through the motions of living unconsciously, utilizing mindful meditations can be useful.

Taking time on a daily basis for mindful meditation practice is the way to become aware of the patterns that a person has fallen into. Once this awareness is brought about, the person who is meditating can then start to see their life from a different perspective and start to see where they can make changes and improvements. In general, meditation techniques help people to gain a more balanced, realistic and grounded view of their behaviors, attitudes and actions.

As you become more aware of all the different aspects of your life, your unique situation, and the environment you are surrounded by through mindfulness mediations, this in turn helps your body to relax, which also helps the nervous system to relax. As a result, stress can be greatly reduced simply by becoming aware through the meditation process.

Mindfulness meditations can also be instrumental in helping a person begin to regain the control in their life that they have given up, while operating in that auto-pilot state. One of the most stressful things people experience is the belief that they have no control of their own existence. These meditation techniques can be very beneficial is raising awareness, breaking old patterns and restoring control over one's own life.

What You can Expect From A Meditation Retreat Center

the retreat

Just about everyone has experienced a time in their lives when it started to feel like everything had just simply become to much to deal with. Sometimes there is such a buildup of challenges that you feel overwhelmed, and if just one more thing occurs, no matter how minor, it might just be the thing to make you "snap." If that sounds a little too familiar, then it might just be time to consider taking the retreat route and seeking out a calming and peaceful meditation retreat for a weekend, a week, or more.

A retreat center is an option that many people overlook when life just starts to become too much. Many times people will take a quick overnight trip to their favorite beach town or nearby romantic getaway, but then they neglect to make it a true getaway by bringing along the cell phone, their PDA or even their laptop.

When this happens, instead of getting the retreat benefits they need and deserve, they end up working right through their brief time out of town. And, because travel in and of itself can be stressful as well, in many cases people return from such ill-planned and poorly executed "vacations" more tired, exhausted and on edge than they were before they left.

The type of retreat center that most stressed-out, overworked, overwhelmed and burned out people would benefit from the most would be a retreat for learning meditation techniques. This would provide them with some additional tools that will be useful to them long after they return to the real world after their retreat experience. A meditation retreat can be the perfect way for a person to give themselves the real break they need and that they deserve and can give them a chance to clear out their mind, detoxify, rejuvenate and even reconnect with themselves spiritually.

The average, everyday person doesn't have the ability to take a couple months to travel to some far-off land to live and study in an ashram or sequester themselves in a monastery. But a retreat that is at a nearby lodge or resort, and which runs over a long weekend or a week, could be just the right thing to provide the break that is needed to "reset" and to set aside the many concerns and stresses for a short time. In many cases, just a few days, if they are truly treated like a retreat experience, is enough to give a person a chance to become calm in body and mind, and to gain a better perspective on life and create a plan to go back and manage things better.

Those who run retreats will strongly encourage participants to completely leave their thoughts and concerns of the world behind. During the time at a retreat, there will be various activities to help support changes in thought processes. There will be opportunities for solitude and mental reflection, as well as for exercise, meditation education, and many delicious and healthy meals.

The participants at a meditation retreat will acquire a number of meditation tools as part of their retreat experience and during the time at the retreat they will start enjoying the immediate benefits of learning to relax, reflect and contemplate. These various techniques, and more, help people effectively "reset" and many participants leave comments at the center saying that they are leaving feeling and looking younger than when they arrived, as well as being equipped to deal with the new stresses and challenges of life.

A Meditation Weekend Retreat Has Many Advantages

how to meditate

There are times in just about everyone's life when things just seem to be too crazy and hectic. At such junctures, it makes sense to do something to completely escape from the rigors of daily life. It is in such circumstances that a weekend retreat to learn about meditation might be the very thing you need to bring a sense of calm, and to foster spiritual enlightenment as well.

During a weekend or even a week long retreat for meditation and spiritual development, people are able to leave behind the normal everyday activities and routines that have a tendency to grind them down after awhile. When people get to the stage of feeling chewed up by life, it is time to take a step back and enjoy a meditation retreat spa.

A weekend retreat that incorporates meditation techniques is a wonderful way to help people learn about meditating, if they are not already experienced in this discipline. It is also a very effective way to help the guests of the retreat to relax in an environment that is completely away and separated from their normal day to day toils and stresses.

Guided meditation is often part of a retreat as well. Guided meditations also are very effective at helping people relax and to develop peaceful and positive states of mind. All of the meditation techniques that are utilized at most retreats are designed to help each individual create a new space in their minds to help them develop a fresh and more empowered perspective of life.

Many people take a weekend or even a week long retreat to a meditation retreat facility as a meaningful vacation choice. It provides them with much greater benefits than simply going sightseeing, taking in a theater show, or riding the attractions at a theme park. Instead, these meditation retreats give lasting benefits, such as a more balanced and better approach to the challenges in life, improved relationships with family members and co-workers, better concentration, more energy, and a better awareness of and engagement in all aspects of their lives.

A retreat that is based around the practice of meditation will be guided by a staff of experienced instructors. These instructors take the time to help guests learn the forms of meditation, the various aspects of the practice, and how to best apply these newly learned meditation techniques in to their daily lives and lifestyles. The teachers are also willing and able to answer any additional questions that participants might have.

While the specifics of a retreat will vary depending on who is actually running the operation and where it is being held, for the most part everyone is welcomed and encouraged to take part. Meditation retreats are suitable for virtually everyone regardless of their age, religion, gender, race or background. It is strongly believed that everyone can experience numerous benefits from learning how to meditate.

There are many benefits that people report after having been to a weekend retreat for meditation. These benefits are not only experienced quickly and quite easily, even by newcomers, but they also have lasting effects. Once a person learns these simple meditation techniques, they can continue to practice them regularly at home in order to develop an even greater level of inner peace, contentment and spiritual healing.

How To Meditate Easily

One of the most popular methods of relaxation is by using meditation to help de-stress from the busy situations that our modern lifestyle tends to throw at us more and more often.

There are a number of easy ways to meditate that can be done at home, at work, or even in the car.

These meditation methods are proven to quickly relax without forcing yourself to spend hours trying to relax.

In fact, they're so easy that you don't need to create a specific place, or sanctuary to relax and meditate.

While some people choose to only use one room in their house, meditation can be done anywhere.

All you need is to find a quiet room, or place where there are no distractions. This means keeping the kids busy, hit the "off" switch on your television, and dimming the lights. And remember to turn off your cell phone as well - these modern day tools that we're slave to know exactly how to ring at the wrong time!

Some meditation teachers will say that in order to meditate properly you must sit ramrod straight in a chair and bend your knees at a right angle. If you have the ability to sit this way, you can. But many other people find it easier to carry out their meditation whilst they lie down on a bed, or sitting in a comfortable chair. It's your choice and unless the meditation method you've chosen say otherwise, experiment to see which is best for you.

Next, all you have to do is take some long, deep breaths and begin concentrating fully on those breaths until your mind is clear.

It is important that you do not try to force yourself to focus on one thought, but instead you should begin to let your thoughts just flow. You may need to practice for a few days but it's simple to begin to meditate in different places and at different times.

Meditation can help in focusing your mind, clear out your mind fog, and simply de-stress after a hectic, busy day.

Practice Meditation for Peace of Mind

You know about meditating, but do you know just what it involves? The term meditation is often used to describe an individual's state of intense focus on an object or thought. The person turns away from outward concerns and focuses on the inner being.

Meditation techniques are said to be of Vedic Hinduism origin and are traditionally practiced in the eastern religions. However, western society has embraced this practice enthusiastically.

People want to practice meditation for a number of reasons. There are those who practice it to help them focus more on God; others aim for personal development. Many people find that it helps them achieve peace of mind and better health. There are also those who seek to gain enlightenment from the practice of meditation.

Or perhaps you think that meditation is just something you should do for your health, like an exercise program or diet. Almost everyone who starts something new will have a vague sense of what this activity will do for them. However, if you don't know what you expect to gain, you most likely won't stick with meditating in the long run.

Not having clear objectives can make it difficult to know where to start. You can also become more easily discouraged when your results fall short of your expectations. The best approach is to first of all identify what you want to gain by meditating. Discover as much as possible about the best practices to achieve that objective. Then, just jump in.

In theory meditation is a simple practice. Just sit there and concentrate on one thought or object. But this is actually much more difficult than it sounds. You might not realize it, but your mind is always racing. And that makes it difficult to focus on only one thought at a time.

It's best, therefore, to start off slowly. Start off with breathing practices. This is the key to meditation. Sit comfortably and inhale and exhale deeply for several minutes. By taking regular breaths, you will improve your ability to focus, which is critical when meditating.

If you find your mind wandering to other matters while you're meditation, just pull your thoughts back and concentrate on your breathing again. Focus and concentration are the core of meditation. If you realize that you've gone off track, just gently guide yourself back to the right state of mind. Don’t get discouraged; learning to meditate takes time, so keep on practicing.

By meditating, you can gain a higher degree of peace and calm. There are so many stresses we deal with daily at home, work and in society, that it's critical for you to have a few peaceful minutes each day.

Breathing Meditation Techniques

Using a breathing meditation technique is probably the easiest meditation technique that you can learn. You're already breathing. Which means all you've got to "learn" is how to actually focus and notice the breaths you take.

Begin your breathing meditation by finding a quiet place. If at all possible, make sure that you won't be disturbed. If you're interrupted whilst you are learning a new technique it's possible you'll be a bit frustrated.

Maybe an unused room in your home. There may be a park or enclosed garden close to your home or where you work. Anywhere that's reasonably quiet. Once you're comfortable with doing breathing meditations, you will find that even the "quiet place" isn't actually necessary. With practice, you will find you can relax absolutely anywhere, whenever you want.

You can practice breathing meditation sitting or standing. Unless the particular breathing meditation you're using says differently, it is your choice.

Initially, just notice each breath in and each breath out. Is your breathing shallow, "normal" or deep?

Next, start to focus on your breathing. Consciously breathe in and gradually fill your lungs. If you're comfortable doing so, hold the air in your lungs for a second or two. And then, breathe out again. Emptying the air from your lungs as much as possible.

Repeat your breathing meditation 5 times or more. As you progress, there's a good chance that your breathing will get deeper. There's a good chance you'll start to feel more relaxed.

One of the best things about using a breathing meditation is that a simple technique like the one above doesn't take very long. And if you want it to be, it's completely "invisible" to those around you. You can perform a breathing meditation almost anywhere.

Well done! You've just done a simple breathing meditation.

Meditation Helps Enlighten Spiritual Life

spiritual journey

In more recent years, it seems that the general public is more open to the idea of nourishing and feeding the spiritual aspects of one's life. Surprisingly, this often has no connection to people seeking out a religious affiliation, but has more to do with personally developing spiritual life practices, which is becoming increasingly important for many. There are numerous people who feel that the popular movie "The Secret" has helped to fuel this movement, with its teachings about the "Law of Attraction."

The fundamental principle of the Law of Attraction is that you will draw into your life the very things that will you give most of your attention to. When it comes to increasing a person's spiritual life and fostering spiritual development, this would mean that the more attention you put on spiritually oriented thoughts, ideas and activities, the more you will be able to enjoy an increased level of spiritual growth.

At the same time, if you want your spiritual life to flourish, then it is best to let go of any kind of fear-based thinking. Focusing on what you fear or on other negative things will impede spiritual development and will sidetrack you from what you really want out of life.

One of the practices that many people find to be very helpful and supportive in their quest for spiritual enlightenment is meditation. Meditation techniques can be very helpful in the two main areas of the Law of Attraction, which are intention and attention. First, you must figure out what it is that you want from life, or from a specific event. This would be identifying your intention. After you have clarified what your intention is, then you can put your energy toward focusing on that, or giving it your attention.

The more clearly you can define your intention and the more focused and consistent your attention toward it, the better you will be able to start manifesting your desires. Mindfulness meditation can help to clear the mind, calm it down and focus thoughts, allowing the development of clearer intentions. When the mind is calmer and not distracted by a myriad of cluttered thoughts, attention can better be focused as well.

Enjoying a rich spiritual life comes down to how we choose to spend out time, energy, talents and focus while in this mortal existence. The choice always exists of whether you want to live in a fear-based world or in a love-based world. What people on a spiritual path come to realize, after investing their time, prayers, meditations and focus, is that the world you ultimately experience has more to do with what you consciously choose to think about and focus your attention on.

Those who have been actively and eagerly engaged in developing their spiritual life will also be the first to say that the spiritual journey of each person will be quite different. Because all people begin at different stages in life and circumstances, even when the goal is exactly the same, the experiences that a person will have along the way will be unique to each individual.

Binaural Beats Meditations For Really Deep Brain Meditation

Binaural beats meditations are a great way to help your meditation easily reach new heights. Binaural beats can be programmed to take your brain into various states of meditation (depending on the outcome you want to achieve), such a a creative state or a deep brain meditative state.

At the theta level, binaural beats can coax your brain into the same state that you'd achieve whilst you are in deep sleep or also an ultra deep meditative state.

If you haven't come across binaural beats before now, they play two marginally different frequencies into your two ears and are often "hidden" by nature soundtracks or music. Because there's only a very small difference between the beats, your mind does it's best to "glue" the two frequencies together. When it does this, you will naturally drop down into the particular brain state the beats have been designed to produce. So theta binaural beats will take your brain down to the theta level.

If you have binaural beats software available on your computer, you will be able to program it to meet your exact needs. The frequency range for theta is between 4 and 7 hertz.

Your brain begins to produce endorphins in your body once it reaches a theta level. These are the same natural opiates produced by your body when you have been exercising hard or are in a state of excitement (I'll leave you to work out some of the times that might happen!).

If you're considering a theta level binaural beats meditation program, you may find that you're one of the many people who need less sleep once they start using the program regularly. Studies have shown that people need between 1 & 4 hours less sleep each night.

Theta binaural beats have also been shown to help people to learn quicker and easier, so if you're studying for exams they're well worth investigating. Studies have shown that they can help you to increase your memory. So if you've been "stuck" on your studies, check out a theta level binaural beats MP3 to assist you.

Whatever your reason for choosing a binaural beats meditation, I think you'll enjoy the ease and simplicity of using this method.

Which Is The Best Meditation Method?

There are many different meditation methods available. So which is the best meditation method for you?

In the same way that not everyone wants the same thing from their car, not everyone wants the same thing from their chosen meditation method. Personally, I'll choose a different method according to the results I'm looking for at that particular time.

This means that there isn't a meditation method that is definitely right for everyone. Some or all of the reason could be down to personal choice. If you've not meditated before, try a few of these popular meditation methods to discover which one is best for you.

1: Breathing meditation. At its simplest, this just involves focusing on your breathing. It's an easy technique to learn and because it's perfectly natural for you to breathe, you can perform this meditation at any time, with no preparation and no special equipment.

2: Walking meditation. Again, this is easy and requires no more than a few spare minutes and somewhere to walk. Simply pay attention to your surroundings as you walk - you'll be surprised just how much you notice that you've "never seen before", even (maybe especially) if the walk is one you regularly take.

3: Binaural Beats meditation. Probably the simplest way to drop into a super-deep meditative state with near enough no effort on your part beyond setting aside some time and pressing "play" on your iPod or CD player. I've personally been using this method for a number of years and have had very positive results.

4: Guided meditation. This can be done either live with someone guiding you through the process or by listening to a pre-recorded guided meditation. You can choose the type of meditation you want for this. It can help you to heal your body, take you into a state of deep relaxation, help you connect with your higher consciousness, or whatever else you choose.

Whichever meditation method you choose, do your best to make it a regular habit. You'll notice a positive change for the better regardless of which meditation method you ultimately choose.

Spiritual Growth Is A Great Alternative For Meditation

spiritual growth

It seems that we are in a time of spiritual enlightenment, as more people are gaining an awareness of the value of meditation techniques, yoga practices, and other methods of self-awareness that are instrumental in fostering spiritual growth. However, there are many different aspects of spirituality to consider and often it can be easy to miss some of the most fundamental and simple things. One of these fundamentals that can either help or hinder spiritual development is complete honesty.

Everyone knows that honesty is a good and valuable characteristic to cultivate, but it is not as often recognized as a necessity when seeking out spiritual growth. However, as most people move along through their spiritual journey, most people start to really discover the significance and importance of honesty as it relates to their quest. There are four primary areas where honesty comes into play most significantly.

The first area where one must employ honesty is in facing their human weaknesses and shortcomings. Everyone on the planet has weaknesses, but until a person is able to see their own and acknowledge them, they will be limited in the amount of spiritual growth they can achieve. If a person strives to cover up or justify their weaknesses, then they are basically blocking any hope of spiritual development.

Secondly, honesty is needed in facing up to the realities of your life. You need to be completely honest about the state of affairs of every aspect of your life. Stop clinging to the image that you want to present to the rest of the world, and begin to embrace the true state of your life and your relationships. The problem with clinging to the image, which is most likely "perfect," is that it gets in the way of being able to make real, lasting and significant changes that can lead to real happiness, rather than just an illusion of it. With honesty, one can look at the real truth and then have a realistic place to begin to improve.

Thirdly, honesty is needed to help people eliminate fake personalities, which must be eschewed in order to enjoy true spiritual enlightenment and growth. Most people put an enormous amount of energy, thought, and anxiety into creating and then maintaining completely false portrayals of themselves. They become more like characters acting in a play than real people engaged in real life. In order to have any hope of enjoying true spiritual healing and development, a person must peel away these false personas and be sincere and forthright beings.

The fourth way that honesty plays a role in the spiritual journey is through the use of meditation techniques. When a person begins a session of meditation, they should be aware their flow of thoughts. For most people who are just learning to master their minds through meditation, they will discover thoughts that are filled with false reasoning and justifications. The best way to begin to control this flow of thoughts is to deal with them in an honest and forthright manner, then setting them aside and allowing the more centered and real thoughts to come to the surface.

On your path toward spiritual growth, keep these four areas in mind and continually apply the test of honesty. As you continue to do that, through various stages and levels of spiritual development, you will find that you are more able to truly tap into your spiritual center. Over time, with such practices engaged on a regular basis, you will find yourself evolving to your highest and best potential spiritually.

Meditation Made Simple: 5 Easy Ways To Meditate

There are lots of different ways that you can use to meditate.

Each way has roughly the same result, it's just a different way to reach that result. Much the same as you can probably change your route to work - you'll get there, maybe faster or slower, but unless you take a complete detour, you'll get there in the end. Examine these simple methods of meditation. Then decide on one method to try out.

Walking meditation

This is an exceptionally easy way for you to meditate. Of course, you'll be aware of what's close by and what is going on around you. The joy of using walking meditation is that you can do it pretty much anywhere. Plus no-one else need know that you're meditating, which can be a benefit when you're starting out. With a walking meditation, it's a good time to pay attention to how you feel in yourself as well as what is near you. If you regularly take a walk of between 15 and 20 minutes, that's fantastic. And even better if you can stay away from distractions such as the noise of traffic, although that may not be as easy in busy towns and cities. If there's a local park, consider that. Or a riverside walk may be worth exploring. Then take yourself for a gentle stroll. Pay attention to the sounds and scents. And, of course, also pay attention to what you see. You may find yourself noticing the vivid colors around you for the first time.

Breathing meditation

Breathing meditations can be as simple or they can get as difficult as you want. at its simplest, find yourself a quiet place where you're likely to be undisturbed. Start to take slightly deeper breaths than you normally would. Breathe in long, slow, deep breaths. If it's comfortable to do so, hold your breath for a second or two before you release it. Then breathe out slowly. Repeat this a number of times - start with 5 or so repetitions and build up to more. This is a simple meditation that can be performed almost any place {and will leave your body more relaxed} and looking forward to the remainder of the day.

Binaural beats meditation

Binaural beat meditations play two marginally different tones - one into each ear. They are usually disguised by music, natural sounds or anything else the author chooses. When your brain receives the two tones, each slightly different, it goes into a state of meditation. The precise state will be a function of the frequency the binaural beats have been set at. So long as you know that the science going on in the background "works", you don't need to think much more about this. It's really easy and is the method I use personally to reach a very deep state of meditation just by listening to an MP3 file for 30 or 60 minutes.

Cosmic meditation

This has become popular in the UK as broadcaster Noel Edmonds attributes his recent come-back to the process. It's also similar to the "Law of Attraction", which in turn was made popular by "The Secret". Cosmic meditation involves dropping into a state of meditation and then asking the cosmos to "deliver" something into your life. You put the intention out to the cosmos and then - a lot more often than you'd think - you receive your intention back into your life. Cosmic meditation usually takes the form of a guided meditation and is sometimes also referred to as Cosmic Ordering.

Guided meditation

A guided meditation can be performed in person or by listening to an MP3 audio file. There are lots of pre-recorded guided meditations available on the internet and places like Amazon. They cover all sorts of topics from general relaxation through to healing and contacting your higher self. Guided meditations typically last between 20 and 60 minutes. You'll normally start with a relaxation period to help you get the best from your meditation session and will then move on to the core of the session you've chosen. So if you're playing a guided meditation to connect with your higher self, you'll maybe be guided to fill your body with a bright white light or maybe some healing sand (which then drains out of your body, cleaning your body as it leaves). Every guided meditation varies - find someone who's voice is good for you to listen to and follow them!
